Geothermal 101: An Introduction to Geothermal Heat Pump Technology
For those who are new to the world of heat pumps for heating, cooling and hot water, this workshop will give you a basic understanding of the technology including how and where it’s best applied. For those whose job it is to explain or sell heat pumps, Jay's colorful and compelling presentation will prove to be invaluable.

2025 GeoStar Top Job Presentations
The objective of the GEOSTAR Top Job Competition is to highlight and recognize the incredible talent, creativity and imagination that geothermal system designers and installers are bringing to the market. Additionally, these excellent case studies communicate to those outside the industry the variety of ways that geothermal heat pump technology can be applied. The judging and selections will occur prior to the NY-GEO conference and the winners in three categories will present their projects in this session. Awards will be presented at the NY-GEO Annual dinner in the evening.

Building Load Side Distribution Options
The geothermal heat pump industry talks a lot about the “source side” of heat pumps, which is commonly coming from a ground heat exchanger. This program is all about how heat pumps deliver space conditioning or hot water to buildings – sometimes called the “load” side. There will be 4 approaches discussed by the panelist, including refrigerant distribution, hydronic distribution, 6-pipe systems (some source may get involved here!) and good ole distributed heat pump as a way to condition buildings.
Moderator:
- Melanie Stachowiak / ME Engineering
Panel:
- Jason Filler / F.W. Webb (refrigerant)
- Justin Jobe / Enertech (hydronic)
- Paul Selking / WaterFurnace (6-pipe)
- Tim Mutkoski / ClimateMaster (distributed heat pump)

Help Wanted!! Building a Geothermal Installer Base
This program will outline how to attract and train residential heating and cooling companies to also become geothermal system installers. What are the current resources and training available to companies or individuals who want to enter the geothermal ranks of installers and service companies?

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: A review of state GSHP incentive programs
In 2024, State legislators proposed 42 bills across 14 states to promote the development of geothermal heat pumps. But what’s happening on the ground? Which policies are doing the most to speed — or impede —geothermal deployment? Dandelion Energy is working with home builders and building out a national installer network for their ground source heat pumps, with >3,000 installs in 5 states, and they are constantly evaluating which states are ripest for expansion. She will share the good, the bad, and the ugly of your state's approach to geothermal and joined by a representative of Con Edison (hint: they might be an example of “the good”!).

- Kathy Hannun / Dandelion Energy
