Richard Kauffman, the NYS governor’s “energy czar,” is leaving as the top energy official but will remain as chairman of NYSERDA. He was brought in to reshape the state’s electric grid after the devastation of Superstorm Sandy.
Kauffman focused on shifting the state’s strategy for renewables and energy efficiency from mandates to shed greenhouse gas emissions to market-based incentive mechanisms.
