NYSERDA Says: End Fossil Fuel Heating by 2050! February 04 2019, 0 Comments
On January 30th 2019, NYSERDA released its "Strategic Outlook 2019-2022." In the document, on page 14, they show goals for buildings:
- 2030: All new buildings must operate at net zero carbon
- 2050: 100% of all buildings must operate at net zero carbon
To meet these goals, the Renewable Thermal industry must dramatically increase its capacity and the rate of renewable thermal installations. We have only 31 years during which we must retrofit the entire state's heating plant.
However, we've done this sort of thing before. The conversions from wood to coal, then coal to oil, and more recently from oil to gas, all took between 30 and 40 years to be substantially complete.
