A new study published January 11, 2019 in the journal Science has revealed the oceans are warming 40 percent faster than predicted just a few years ago.
Oceans absorb 93 percent of the heat from the sun, but they are rapidly reaching a saturation point when they will no longer be able to hold any more heat. This means the atmosphere will get hotter than it is already, making the effects of a warming planet even greater.

On January 15, 2019 New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the launch of a "Green New Deal."
Outlined in his 2019 Justice Agenda, it calls for a "globally unprecedented" ramp-up in renewable energy deployments as New York seeks to achieve 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2040, and ultimately to eliminate New York State's entire carbon footprint.
California’s governor signed a similar executive order to achieve carbon neutrality economy-wide by 2045, and its legislature passed a bill to achieve 100 percent clean electricity by the same year.
