Projection: 21% Buildings with Heat Pumps by 2030 July 06 2020
A recently filed White Paper from Public Service Department staff focuses on how to meet New York's adopted goals for renewable electricity generation under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.
As part of projected electricity demand the Paper factors in the demand from electrifying New York's heating sector. The report projects (on page 19) that 21% of New York's primary building heating systems will be air and ground source heat pumps by 2030 resulting in 10,334 GWh of increased demand.
However, the report fails to state the assumed ratio of installed GSHPs to ASHPs that was used to determine this figure. A greater ratio of GSHPs would lower the electricity demand.
