Heather Anderson

Ms. Heather Anderson, based in Bosch Thermotechnology’s North American headquarters in Londonderry, New Hampshire, serves as the Business Development Manager and Chief of Staff to the North American President.

Bosch Thermotechnology is a leading source of high quality heating, cooling, and hot water systems committed to reinventing energy efficiency and is a part of the Bosch Group. Ms. Anderson is responsible for developing and executing business strategy. Previously, she served as Business Integration Manager where she directed the post-merger activities of Bosch Thermotechnology in North America. She joined Bosch in January of 2010 as Sales Operations Manager.

Prior to Bosch, she worked in various local government and non-profit leadership roles focusing on building consensus amongst different stakeholder groups to achieve innovative policy and programming results.

Ms. Anderson earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration at Southern New Hampshire University and holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Political Science from Tufts University.

Paul Bony is the Vice President of the Solar Energy International Board of Directors and also serves on the IGSHPA’s Board of Directors.

Prior to joining Matrix Business Development, where his is focusing on renewable project finance and development, Paul was the Director of Renewables and Contractor Development for the Electric and Gas Industries Association (EGIA).

Paul has over 25 years of diversified experience in marketing and delivering energy efficiency and renewable energy products and services at the utility, manufacturer, distributor, dealer and consumer level, including extensive experience in the ground source heat pump industry.

Paul has an BS from Kansas State University and an MBA From the University of Nevada, Reno.

John Ciovacco is President of Aztech Geothermal, a design-build contractor of innovative building energy systems based in Ballston Spa, NY. He is a resource to building owners, construction companies, engineers, architects and investors regarding the latest renewable and energy efficiency technologies, government incentives and financing options.

John is an IGSHPA Accredited Geothermal Installer, a Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certified Contractor, American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Presenter, and a Certified Green Professional with the NAHB. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Union College.

John is a founding member and Interim Director of NY-GEO.

Tammy Cole

Tammy Cole

Tammy & Charles Cole are owners of Cole’s Drilling, LLC based in Louisiana.

The company began installing geothermal loop system in 1983. In 1989, Cole’s drilled and set test loops for 10 houses for the Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Polk Army Base involving a study on GSHPs versus ASHPs. Later in 1995, the Army base converted all the housing to GSHPs requiring 8,800 geothermal loops. Cole’s has installed geothermal loops in more than 25 states.

Cole’s is now manufacturing specialized equipment to improve the efficiency of geothermal loop installations. The Coil Tubing Insertion Unit (CTIU) minimizes labor, waste and grout cost.

Tammy Cole is an IGSHPA-accredited Geothermal Installer and NGWA-accredited Vertical Loop Driller.

Ken Daly

Ken Daly

Kenneth D. Daly, CFA, is the President of the New York business of National Grid, which serves natural gas and electric customers in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Long Island, and Upstate New York. Mr. Daly joined National Grid’s predecessor, in 1988. He was recently based in London, serving for two years as Global Financial Controller, previously served as CFO of the US and UK gas distribution businesses, and has held numerous positions in Finance, Human Resources and Customer Relations throughout his 28 year career.

Mr. Daly holds both an MBA in Finance, an MS in Human Resource Management and the Harvard University Advanced Management Program in 2014. He has been an adjunct professor at Saint Francis College teaching human resource, business and finance courses for 20 years.

Mr. Daly is also a member of the Long Island Energeia Partnership, The NYC Partnership, the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center Board (AERTC), the Business Council of New York State Board, and the NYSERDA Board.

Jack DiEnna

Jack DiEnna, the Executive Director and Founder of the Geothermal National & International Initiative (GEO-NII), is a business development and marketing professional with over forty years' combined experience in the electric utility and the renewable energy industries.

He is a nationally recognized authority on all aspects of renewable technology and specifically on GHPs. This proficiency includes marketing, creative financing and the resulting positive economic and environmental impact that can be derived from the use of GHP systems and other renewable technologies. His expertise is internationally acknowledged as a valued resource by not only the renewable and GHP industry but also by both national and international government officials, trade allies and all major market segment associations promoting GHP technology.

Jack is on the Board of Directors of IGSHPA and has been awarded the title of Ambassador for the Association. He was the driving force in the creation and development of the Certified GeoExchange Designer (CGD) certification, a training program for design professionals in GHP technology, which has become the gold standard both nationally and internationally.

He is a member of the American/Canadian Bi National GHP Standards Committee and a founding member of the NY-GEO.

Doug Dougherty

Doug Dougherty

Douglas Dougherty has been President and CEO of GEO since March 2011. He served for thirteen years as President of the Illinois Telecommunications Association (ITA).

Between 1995 and 1998, he was Executive Director of the Governor’s Rural Affairs Council and Senior Advisor for Economic Development in Illinois. Prior to that, Doug worked nine years in management positions for an electric power generator and transmission cooperative, where he started a geothermal heat pump procurement program.

From 1976 through 1986, Doug worked for the Illinois Departments of Transportation and Commerce and Community Affairs, and as Assistant General Manager for the Illinois Commerce Commission. Doug has been recognized for his contributions to a number of well-known organizations, including Rural Partners which he helped form in 1989, and the Illinois Development Council, which awarded him their 1991 Economic Developer of the Year Award.

Doug earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science from Bradley University and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Illinois, Springfield.

Jay Egg formed EggGeothermal in 1990 to provide geothermal HVAC systems and consultation services for a variety of public and private clients. EggGeothermal is also a training and curriculum facilitator for the "Geothermal Workshop Series" serving the GeoExchange Organization/American Ground Water Trust, and National Ground Water Association, where Jay provides AIA continuing education credit and up-to the-minute information for industry professionals.

Jay is also an industry spokesman, renewable energy expert and author of Geothermal HVAC, Green Heating and Cooling and Modern Geothermal HVAC Engineering and Control Applications. He writes for numerous trade magazines including National Geographic Energy, Commercial Building Products Magazine, Plumbing Engineer, Plumbing and Heating Contractor News, Green Builder, Mechanical Hub, U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Information Administration and National Driller.

Laura Fidao

Laura Fidao is a Senior Manager on the Clean Energy Finance team at the Connecticut Green Bank.

Laura manages a wide-ranging portfolio of capital-raising and deployment initiatives, including for small business energy efficiency programs, commercial-scale solar PV projects, renewable thermal technologies, and electric vehicles.

Prior to joining the Green Bank, Laura led business development efforts for a global energy commodity hedge fund, and before that she served on the Technology Innovation team for the United Kingdom based Carbon Trust.

Laura holds an MSc in Carbon Management from the University of Edinburgh and earned her undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis.

Zach Fink

Zach Fink is the lead Geothermal Designer for ZBF Geothermal, LLC. At ZBF Geothermal, Zach specializes on high performance geothermal heating and cooling systems. He consults on/ designs and installs projects ranging for 1,500 square foot residential homes to 15 story rental building in New York City.

Over the past six years, Zach has installed or designed more than 250 geothermal heating and cooling systems.

He is an ISGHPA Accredited Installer and a founding member and Interim Director of NY-GEO.

John Franceschina, P.E.

John Franceschina, P.E., formerly the Director of Commercial Energy Efficiency Programs at the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), is now Senior Manager for Lockheed Martin’s Energy Efficiency and Demand Response program for PSEG Long Island. It provides rebates and incentives for the 1.1M residential and commercial customers in the PSEG-LI territory which includes virtually all homes and businesses in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaways.

As Senior Manager, John leads, manages and oversees all aspects of PSEG's residential energy efficiency programs encompassing both the new construction and existing building market sectors.

John is a founding member and Interim President of NY-GEO.

Donovan Gordon

Donovan Gordon is Director of Renewable Heating & Cooling for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). He leads New York State’s efforts to develop markets that support clean, high-efficiency, renewable thermal systems, including solar cooling, heating and hot water; air and ground source heat pumps, and biomass heating systems. He is charged with conceptualizing, driving and implementing a portfolio of products to encourage and enable customers and partners to invest in low-carbon/renewable cooling and heating systems and also with advancing New York's progress toward self-sustained markets.

Donovan is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accredited Green Associate, and an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) accredited Geothermal Installer. He received a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from St. Francis College and a Master in Business Administration from NYU, Stern School of Business.

Kathy (Cooper) Hannun

Kathy (Cooper) Hannun is the co-founder and CEO of Dandelion. Dandelion is a company that has recently spun out of Google X to harness innovative technology, financing and data-driven customer acquisition techniques to make renewable heating and cooling the most affordable and desirable option for homeowners.

Kathy worked at Google from 2010-2017, where she was a product manager at X. Her work included founding and leading a project in seawater fuels, using Loon wind data to improve atmospheric science, and rapidly evaluating new opportunities.

She's received an MS in computer science from Stanford University and a BS in Civil Engineering, also from Stanford.

David Hatherton

Dave Hatherton has been a pioneer of the GHP industry in North America for 36 years. He is the founder or co-founder of WaterFurnace in Canada (1980), WFI in the USA (1983) with Dan Ellis, ESI (1991), DX HP manufacturer, later sold to WF USA and NextEnergy Inc. (1989) sold in 2011. Dave's industry leadership roles have included CEO of ESI/WaterFurnace Inc. Canada, VP of WaterFurnace International, US, VP of ClimateMaster Inc. and CEO of NextEnergy.

He is a founding member of IGSHPA, founding president of CEEA (Ontario Hydro GSHP Program), the EEA, DC (precursor to GHPC), GHPC – DC and CGC Canada. Dave's other contributions include writing the first draft CSA 445 standard for GSHPs, which has evolved into CSA 448, testifying before the US Congress for $100M GHPC request for funding, which was approved, providing input to the Obama Administration’s Report on geothermal by ORNL, and presenting on behalf of the OGA for Climate Change Policy in Canada in 2016.

John Heilbrunn has worked as a consultant and affiliate with Halco since 1995. He formally joined Halco as an employee in 2015 and serves as the Executive Vice President of the company.

John is a highly successful business leader with 40+ years of real world accountability in the home performance industry. Most notably, he developed the world’s fastest Manual J Heat loss/Heat gain calculation software for which he was recognized as a ‘Gold’ medal recipient for innovation by the Connecticut Chapter of the Malcolm Baldrige Society.

John has also served as a divisional president for the world’s largest HVAC manufacturer, helped develop the Dr. Energy Saver Home Performance Dealer Network, and has owned and operated a HVAC marketing and training consulting business.

John is a BPI certified Envelope and Building Analyst and has extensive training and experience in HVAC design.

AJ Heiligman

AJ Heiligman is President of Alternative Carbon Energy Systems, Inc., a design-build renewable energy contractor in Rochester, NY. ACES primary business is the design and installation of residential and light commercial geothermal system throughout Upstate, NY.

AJ and his team also design and install solar PV, solar thermal and complex hydronic systems to complement their geothermal offering. AJ is an IGSHPA Accredited Geothermal Installer, a Certified Energy Manger (CEM) from the Association of Energy Engineers.

He has a BS degree from Clarkson University and is a current MBA candidate at the University of Rochester.

AJ is a founding member of NY-GEO.

David Hermantin

David Hermantin, PE, CGD, Sr. Project Manager at P.W. Grosser, has been very active in geothermal projects in the Tristate area and New England for the past 10 years.

He has designed, and overseen installation of dozens of systems ranging in size from small residential systems to large commercial systems with over 1,000 tons of capacity. Dave has performed several forensic studies on underperforming and failed geothermal systems and has developed designs to repair and rehabilitate many commercial geothermal systems.

He is an AEE Certified GeoExchange Designer and IGSHPA Certified Inspector.

He is currently the President of the Connecticut Geothermal Association (2017).

Geoff Hoffer

Geoff Hoffer

Geoff Hoffer is a Project Engineer at Aztech Geothermal and is responsible for project management and coordination of all field operations. He interfaces with customers, subcontractors and Aztech Geothermal technicians to ensure an efficient and quality installation.

Geoff is also involved in the design of the systems by conducting building heat load analysis, equipment sizing and ground heat exchanger design.

He is an IGSHPA Certified GeoExchange Designer, an IGSHPA Accredited Installer and holds universal certification by the EPA in refrigerant handling.

Geoff has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis) and has over 20 years’ experience in Maintenance and Operations Management in manufacturing facilities.

John Joshi

John Joshi is Director of Financial Solutions at NYSERDA.

He is a member of the NREL SAPC Working Group to develop the standards for solar securitization and capital market solutions. He works with industry stakeholders to develop standards for solar securitization, risk analysis, best practices for performance reporting and analysis, and formed crucial relationships with the broader finance and investor community.

Mr. Joshi has advised the DOE Office of the Secretary, Under Secretary and the Senate staff on solar finance and securitization. His previous experience at Plant - Smart Energy Solutions, The Clinton Group, Countrywide Alternative Investments, Capital Fusion Partners, Salomon Brothers makes John an expert in all facets of finance, investments, structured finance, strategy, business development, financial strategy and capital markets solutions.

Chong (John) Lin

Chong (John) Lin

Chong (John) Lin is a Program Manager with National Grid in the New Energy Solutions division. In this role, he manages two innovative projects supporting New York’s Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) initiative: a micro-combined heat and power (mCHP) project and a geothermal project.

Drawing on several years' experience in energy efficiency, community outreach, and energy consulting, John is mainly focused on renewable heating and cooling technologies and distributed energy resources.

Before rejoining National Grid this year, John worked for three years for a diverse range of organizations, including ICF International where he worked as an account manager helping buildings in New York City to develop strategic roadmaps to increase energy efficiency and resiliency. John started his professional career with National Grid working on the smart grid project in Worcester, Massachusetts.

John holds a MSc in Environmental Science and Policy from Clark University.

Paul Lundberg

Paul Lundberg is the Assistant Director of Construction Services at Skidmore College. He also has been involved with all of Skidmore’s Energy Conservation Measures; Geothermal development; and Renewable Energy Initiatives within the past 15 years. His influence in developing the Geothermal District approach for Skidmore assisted in the team being designated by AASHE (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) with a national award for innovation in 2012.

He is also involved with the recent developments for renewable energy at Skidmore; its 2MW solar array and a hydroelectric facility; 40% of the campus is currently utilizing geothermal technologies and the college is positioned for some of the most exciting sustainability leadership among its peer institutions.

Paul holds degrees in Natural Resources Conservation; Biological Science and certifications in Environmental Management. He received an MS in Energy Management from NYIT. Additionally he has designations as an AEE-C.E.M. and a CGD via IGSHPA.

John Manning, P.E., supports hundreds of geothermal contractors through Phoenix Energy Supply and Earth Sensitive Solutions. Since obtaining a Research Grant from the National Science Foundation in 1975 John has engaged in every aspect of heat pump design, marketing, application and system design.

As founder of Earth Sensitive Solutions, LLC he has contributed to the successful application of geothermal heat pump technology from Port Augusta, Australia to Auburn, NY. Mr. Manning is also a trained presenter and supporter of The Climate Project.

John is a founding member and Interim Treasurer of NY-GEO.

Fred Newell

Fred Newell

Fred Newell is the East Region Manager for WaterFurnace International. WaterFurnace is a manufacturer of geothermal equipment headquartered in Fort Wayne, IN.

In his role as Region Manager, Fred works with Territory Managers, Electric Utilities and Dealers from Missouri across the Midwest and into the East Coast as far as Portland, Maine. He and WaterFurnace focus mainly on the residential Geo business. He has been in the HVAC industry since 2001, working primarily with Dealers and Manufacturers. He began his career with the Quincy, Illinois based HVAC wholesale company, T. F. Ehrhart.

Fred is on the HVAC Advisory Council at Linn State College in Linn, MO and is currently a Board Member for the Geothermal Alliance of Illinois. He has been with WaterFurnace since 2009.

His education is from Missouri State University and he currently lives in Lake Ozark, Missouri.

Bill Nowak

Bill Nowak is a founding member and currently Executive Director of NY-GEO. He is both an environmental advocate and renewable energy promoter. His effectiveness as Director of Policy Research on the NY State Senate Environmental Conservation Committee while working for Senator Antoine M. Thompson contributed to the Senator being named 2010 Legislator of the Year by Environmental Advocates of NY and 2010 Solar Legislative Champion by the NY Solar Energy Industries Association.

In 2011 Bill obtained his IGSHPA Accredited Installer Certification. This added to the many other certifications and education credentials Bill has obtained since obtaining his BA degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He has written articles on renewable energy and geothermal heat pump technology for various publications.

Jens Ponikau

Jens Ponikau is the co-owner of Buffalo Geothermal Heating, a geothermal design and installation firm that installs between 90-100 systems per year in Western NY. He is an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) accredited geothermal installer and geoexchange designer.

He has a doctoral degree from the University of Hamburg, Germany. Before moving to Western NY and helping to found Buffalo Geothermal in 2008, he had installed 120 geosystems in Germany - his native land. Jens regularly gives seminars and public presentations on geothermal technology and has made public appearances on the radio, in schools, and at home shows to share his knowledge on geothermal heat pimp technology.

Jens is a founding member and Interim Vice President of NY-GEO.

John B. Rhodes

John B. Rhodes has been the president and CEO of NYSERDA since 2013. NYSERDA is a public benefit corporation that advances innovative energy solutions to improve New York State’s economy and environment.

He has also served as the director for the Center for Market Innovation at the NRDC, an international environmental advocacy organization. He spent three years as acting chief operating officer at Good Energies, a leading investment firm focused on renewable energy and energy efficiency.

He is on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Alliance to Save Energy, Urban Green Council, New York Institute for Special Education, American Federation for Aging Research and Cornerstone Literacy.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in history from Princeton University and a Master’s degree in management from the Yale School of Management.

Erich Scherer

Erich Scherer works as a Senior Advisor for Energy and Environmental Analysis at NYSERDA, supporting analysis and policy development across the full range of NYSERDA's clean energy programs. He arrived at NYSERDA in 2015 from the private sector, where he provided financial services across the solar PV, biomass heat and energy efficiency sectors in London and Philadelphia. Prior to that, Erich held a range of positions with the UK Government Department of Energy and Climate Change, where he was one of the authors of the UK renewables policy framework, comprising the Renewables Obligation, Feed-in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive.

At the European Commission in Brussels, he was one of the designers of the 2009 Renewables Directive, which sets mandatory targets driving renewable energy policy efforts across the European Union. Erich started his career as a lawyer, specializing in corporate and finance law.

He holds Masters degrees from the University of Oxford and the Free University of Amsterdam.

Guy Sliker

Guy Sliker is the Director of Energy Service Product Development at the New York Power Authority, the nation's largest state-owned power organization.

Mr. Sliker has been working in the distributed generation and renewable energy fields for 20 years, primarily with public and private electric utility companies. At his current position at the New York Power Authority Mr. Sliker is responsible for the implementation of the company's product development activities related to distributed energy resources.

Mr. Sliker has a BA in Economics and an MS in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Massachusetts.

Hal Smith is the co-owner with his wife Tammy Smith of Halco. Started in 1984 as a plumbing and heating installation and service business, Halco has evolved into a business providing full energy solutions for residential and commercial clients with an emphasis on quality, service, and sustainability.

In the over the 32 years that Halco has existed, Hal has proven to be an innovator and visionary. He has been a constant and primary force in Halco's development into a leading company that offers high-efficiency heating and cooling systems; home energy audits; and envelope improvements including insulation, air-sealing, and clean renewable energy systems.

His licenses, certifications and affiliations include NATE (North American Technician Excellence, Inc.), ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America), BPI (Building Performance Institute), Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® and DBIA (Design Build Institute of America).

Paul Tonko, Congressman

Paul Tonko is a 4th-term member of the US House of Representatives serving New York’s 20th Congressional District. He is a proud co-sponsor of H.R.1090, which extends the federal tax credit for geothermal heat pump systems.

Paul is a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, the Science, Space and Technology Committee and the Subcommittee on Research and Technology. He has previously served as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Environment and Economy and on the Natural Resources Committee.

In addition, Paul is a Co-Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), the green voice in Congress. He is also a longtime Honorary Vice-Chair of the Alliance to Save Energy, a bipartisan, non-profit coalition that promotes energy efficiency across all sectors of the global economy. Paul continues to bring clean energy jobs to the Capital Region to ensure it maintains its status as one of the fastest-growing clean technology hubs in the country.

Prior to serving in Congress, Paul was the President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). He graduated from Clarkson University with a degree in mechanical and industrial engineering and is a former engineer for the New York State Public Service Commission.

Lauren Valentine is an associate at Sandler Training, a leadership, sales and customer service training and consulting organization. Entrepreneur Magazine awarded it as the #1 Sales Training Franchise in America and it has been recognized seven times as having the #1 Management Training Program in America. Sandler Training has worked with thousands of successful businesses over the years, helping them to develop high performance behaviors, winning attitudes, and superior techniques which ultimately increase market shares, shorten the sales cycle, and protect against being commoditized.

She joined Sandler Training after working in the health care and technology industries. While working in the technology industry she was introduced to the Sandler Sales Mastery program, and found that it had a profound impact on her professionally & personally motivating her to join the company.

Lauren has a BA from SUNY Albany and has won several awards including the Sandler Platinum Award in July 2016.

Bob Wyman

Bob Wyman is a GHP advocate and a renewable energy consultant. He is currently engaged with a number of clients who seek to dramatically increase the adoption of GHP in the US and elsewhere. He also advocates for clean energy solutions in New York City such the elimination of No 6 and No 4 heating oil and the recently passed requirement that GHPs be considered for all new and retrofitted municipal buildings.

Prior to engaging full time with the GHP industry, Bob spent 40+ years in the software industry making significant contributions in the areas of electronic mail, office automation, hypertext, digital rights management, multimedia publishing, and both retrospective and prospective search technologies.
